Job Overview
The Clinical Unit Aide is responsible for the general receiving, decanting and transport of supplies and equipment, inventory management, and all other Unit Aide duties as needed for all areas of The Kensington Screening Clinic and Surgery area at the Eye Institute. This person is responsible for garbage and linen pickup and will complete their duties in a professional and customer driven manner. They will assist with volunteer orientation and will act as their resource person. They will also assist in patient admission and will enter admission data into the patient Electronic Medical Record as appropriate (KSC).
Responsibilities
Administration:
Kensington Screening Clinic Volunteer Manager: introduce volunteers to KSC, provide orientation and responsible for assigning them to tasks, as needs present.
Assist Infusion Services with drug shipment receipt reconciliation.
Admit patients to Kensington Screening Clinic.
Enter data into Accuro (EMR) including but not limited to, admission data and file scanning.
Materials Management:
Order all clinical supplies using Business Central.
Maintain supply inventory and reports supply usage.
Receive and reconciles all deliveries.
Deliver cleaning, medical and stock cart supplies for Procedure Rooms at the end of the day.
Ensure FIFO (first in first out) is used to allow for optimal use of all items with expiry dates.
Operating Room Area:
Monitor and inspect equipment daily to ensure it is maintained in a clean condition and in good repair; including but not limited to ECG cables, vital sign equip etc.
Assist with refuse and linen disposal.
Assist with stocking Procedure rooms as needed.
Manages linen changes and cleaning of beds throughout the day and ensure chairs are plugged in at the end of the day.
Deliver post-procedure patients to main floor as needed.
Assist Pre-post in post op area with task including but not limited to, cleaning, linen and isolation gown restocking, and assisting with delegated tasks from the team.
Other Responsibilities:
Enter data into Accuro (EMR).
Establish and maintain good working relationship with professional and non-professional staff, patients, families, volunteers and members of the community.
Respect and maintain the privacy and confidentiality of patients and family.
Responsible for working safely in compliance with accepted safe work practices, procedures and legislated health and safety standards. Employees must: use and wear the equipment, protective devices and personal protective equipment as required; report hazards, accidents, and the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective device; attend all required health and safety training; and follow all established safe work procedures.
Complete IPAC certificate, in accordance with CPSO OHP standards.
Demonstrate a commitment to the Mission, Vision and Values of Kensington Health.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Abilities:
Excellent time management skills, ability to shift priorities on an ad hoc basis and flexibility with working hours based on patient needs.
Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
Wel organized with strong attention to detail.
Able to work independently without supervision and exercise initiative.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Previous volunteer experience at Kensington Health and the ambulatory areas specifically is an asset.
Previous Unit Aide experience is an asset.
Able to demonstrate support for innovative ideas.
Required Professional Designation/Certificate:
Minimum Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
